Spring Cleaning With Pantry Items

Spring is in the air…the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and if you’re like many you’re feeling that urge to freshen up your London Ontario rental apartment with a spring deep clean.

Wondering how to ditch the dirt while still keeping things green? There are many non-toxic homemade household cleaning solutions to keep your 1, 2 or 3 bedroom apartment spic and span, and many of them are found right in your pantry!

Vinegar is so versatile, used on it’s own or diluted with water it can replace many of the cleaning products you currently use throughout your rental apartment.

Spray it on glass for a sparkly shine, or use it in your sinks, tub and toilet to eliminate bathroom germs. Best of all, it’s extremely affordable!

Olive Oil can be used to restore lustre to the wood furniture in your London Ontario apartment rental. In a spray bottle, mix 2tsp of olive oil with ¼ cup of white vinegar and shake to mix. Then, you simply squirt a small amount on to a microfiber cloth and rub on to the furniture, going with the grain to evenly distribute. Wipe off any excess with a dry, clean cloth and your wood furniture should be looking good as new.

Baking soda is the tried and true cleanser. Not only is it great for removing odours from the fridge or the carpets of your 1,2 or 3 bedroom apartment rental, It’s also good for anything that might require a little extra scrubbing power.

Salt is one that perhaps you ‘ve never heard of used for cleaning before but it’s actually used in much the same way as baking soda, in that it’s a great scouring agent to have on hand. My favourite salt use? Removing rings from coffee cups. But there are plenty of other ways to use salt in your rental apartment as well.

Do you ever wonder why all of your cleansers smell lemony fresh? That’s because lemons are an excellent non-toxic cleaning option for many items in your 1, 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. A simple lemon can clean and sanitize your wood and plastic cutting boards, remove stains, and polish copper. Put a bowl full of water with lemon warmed up in the microwave and wiping away stuck on food is a breeze!

Ok, this one isn't in your pantry, and it's a little pricier than most of these other options, but microfiber cloths are a great investment if getting away from chemical cleansers in your apartment rental is important to you and your family. Highly absorbent, and made to trap dirt and other particles without leaving a streak, all you need to add is water.

It’s never been so easy to be green!
